UK holidaymakers leave it late

Domestic holidaymakers are booking later than ever to try to take advantage of last minute offers and good weather.

UK parks operator Hoseasons said since July 25, the start of the school holidays in England and Wales, bookings for the parks have risen by over 34% compared with sales in the same period last year.


Virgin pilots threaten summer strikes

Less than a week after British Airways resolved its long-running dispute with cabin crew, Virgin Atlantic pilots are threatening strikes over the summer which could hit families' holiday plans. 

The British Airline Pilots Association, which represents 85% of Virgin's flight crew, said it will begin balloting members next week after pay talks between the union and the airline broke down. 


Energy Performance Certificates for Holiday Lets

The outcome of the consultation document ‘Making better use of energy performance certificates and data’ was published by the Department for Communities and Local Government on 29 November 2010.

Amongst the proposals in the original consultation was to require energy performance certificates (EPCs) for short-term holiday lets.


AITO blasts BA crew strike decision

AITO has hit out at British Airways crew for voting to strike again, labelling the action “comical if it weren’t so serious”.


 

Union leaders including those that represent British Airways crew will meet later this month to debate holding a coordinated strike to coincide with the royal wedding.

Unite the union will announce today whether it will bring six UK airports to a standstill later this month, causing chaos for hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers.

Workers at six airports are being balloted for strike action by the Unite union.

Unite is to ballot more than 6,000 members based at BAA airports, including Heathrow, in a dispute over pay.

Nearly a quarter of all Hoseasons bookings last month were for holidays in the next 7-14 days, according to its MD. Geoff Cowley said 22% of the company's bookings were for last-minute accommodation.


Unite tells BA: settle dispute by Tuesday or we ballot

Cabin crew union Unite has told British Airways that it has until June 29 to settle the long-running dispute between the two or face the consequences of a summer strike action ballot.


British_Leisure_Show_logoHoliday lodges were exhibited in Windsor, Berkshire for the very first time last weekend at the British Leisure Show on Windsor Race Course.

Despite the rain of the first two days, the show played host to over 21,000 visitors, finishing on a very sunny Sunday.
